This charming Swedish chest of drawers, dated 1835, was made as a bridal chest, created to accompany a bride into her new household. Crafted in pine, it reflects the transition in early 19th-century Sweden from traditional storage chests to more modern drawer furniture. The chest features five well proportioned drawers, offering ample storage. Traces of its partly original painted surface remain and offer the most surprising details. The drawers are fitted with beautiful leather pull handles, adding both tactile appeal and an authentic period detail. This chest is a beautiful example of Swedish folk furniture — both functional and deeply symbolic — embodying themes of marriage, household order, and continuity.

Of particular interest is the internal inscription found in the top left drawer:
“A.O.S – S.O.D 1835”
which were the initials of the bride and groom, firmly anchoring the piece to its original marital context and providing rare personal provenance.
