Early Pirkka stool designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Laukaan Puu, Finland, in the 1950s. The Pirkka series, introduced during Tapiovaara's important early postwar period, is characterised by its honest use of solid wood, expressive construction and restrained, functional forms.

This early example is completely original and retains beautiful manufacturer's burn stamps beneath the seat. The stool displays a warm, naturally developed patina and honest signs of use consistent with its age, while remaining structurally sound and fully functional.
