A remarkably cohesive set of six CH36 dining chairs designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1962 and produced in 1974. The chairs feature solid oak frames with a warm, richly patinated oiled finish and handwoven Danish paper cord seats.
The CH36 reflects Wegner's characteristic combination of exceptional craftsmanship, structural clarity and organic form. Its restrained construction and honest use of materials were influenced in part by the simplicity and functional ideals of Shaker furniture, translated here into a distinctly Danish Modern language.
This exceptionally beautiful vintage set retains its original 1974 production date, with three chairs retaining the original silver Carl Hansen & Søn label. The oak frames have been carefully cleaned and re-oiled, preserving their rich natural colour and developed patina. The seats have been professionally rewoven in our atelier using traditional Danish paper cord.
